Lara Olszowska

Freelance Journalist

Lara was born and raised in London and studied Russian and Spanish at university. She started a blog about her experiences of living abroad in 2018 and worked as an English language tutor and nanny before taking the leap to pursue a career in journalism in 2022. She trained part-time at News Associates while on a placement at Hoxton Radio and writing freelance articles for various publications.

Currently she is a freelance diary reporter and features writer for the Evening Standard. Her byline appears in The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Independent, The i paper, Business Insider, Women in Journalism, Wonderland, The Calvert Journal, WhyNow and more.

She won the Freelancing For Journalists Early Career Award 2023 for her report in Prospect magazine on how teachers in Ukraine are keeping schools going during the war. She was shortlisted for The Telegraph’s Cassandra Jardine Memorial Prize in 2022.

Her other freelance jobs include hosting live events at Soho House, content creating for Woo (an ITV social media channel for Gen Z), copywriting for private clients, and working as a production assistant for a literary festival.
